A circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin which covers the tip (glans) of the penis. Circumcision is fairly common for newborn boys and adolescents in South Africa. Circumcision after the newborn period is possible, but it's a more complex procedure.

In South Africa, there is a culture of performing circumcisions for the purposes of culture or religious ritual, but it can also be done as a matter of hygiene, as well as preventive health.
